On Parade

Our St. Patrick's Day parade was last Saturday, winding its way from City Hall downtown to Lansdowne Park in the Glebe. I followed the parade route all the way down, taking photos as I went.  Onlookers varied in numbers along the way. Bands like the Ottawa Firefighters Band and bagpipers were part of the proceedings.

Classic vehicles were also part of the parade. The one in the lead was an old fire truck.

Cheerleaders for the RedBlacks were here. The RedBlacks, the 67s, and the Fury are all sports teams operating out of the stadium and arena at Lansdowne Park.

And as is always the case with this parade, Irish greyhounds and their humans were walking the route. I have more of them tomorrow.

  2. Interesting the parade would be last weekend, since St. Patrick's Day is on a Saturday. I guess that frees up tomorrow for grand adventures!... or Green Beer

  3. Great shots and it looks like fun. I must confess to being mildly irritated by St Patrick's Day celebrations in Britain - whilst acknowledging there are many Irish here (and they are very welcome) - Paddy's Day is, after all, a foreign celebration (though the man himself probably came from somewhere in what is now England). I'd probably feel better about it if George, Andy and Dave were celebrated in equal measure; though, talking of measures - mine's a pint...

  8. @Lowell: thanks!

    @Janis: they tend to do it in the lead-up to the date, which suits me fine, as I can prep blogs that way.

    @Francisco: thank you.

    @Mike: I think the idea's transcended the man himself in many places.

    @Mildred: more of those greyhounds tomorrow!

    @Victor: thanks!

    @Marie: that was one big dog.

    @Tom: we've still got snow here!

    @Marianne: it was.

  20. Nice shots, William. I enjoyed seeing the dogs but I imagine they didn't like being dressed up in green too much.
