Our St. Patrick's Day parade was last Saturday, winding its way from City Hall downtown to Lansdowne Park in the Glebe. I followed the parade route all the way down, taking photos as I went. Onlookers varied in numbers along the way. Bands like the Ottawa Firefighters Band and bagpipers were part of the proceedings.
Classic vehicles were also part of the parade. The one in the lead was an old fire truck.
Cheerleaders for the RedBlacks were here. The RedBlacks, the 67s, and the Fury are all sports teams operating out of the stadium and arena at Lansdowne Park.
And as is always the case with this parade, Irish greyhounds and their humans were walking the route. I have more of them tomorrow.
Everyone loves a parade, especially on St. Patrick's Day! Fun shots, William.
ReplyDeleteInteresting the parade would be last weekend, since St. Patrick's Day is on a Saturday. I guess that frees up tomorrow for grand adventures!... or Green Beer

Great shots and it looks like fun. I must confess to being mildly irritated by St Patrick's Day celebrations in Britain - whilst acknowledging there are many Irish here (and they are very welcome) - Paddy's Day is, after all, a foreign celebration (though the man himself probably came from somewhere in what is now England). I'd probably feel better about it if George, Andy and Dave were celebrated in equal measure; though, talking of measures - mine's a pint...
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun pictures. I especially love the old fire truck and those dashing greyhounds! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. Happy St Patrick's Day.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Newfoundland has a lot of Irish descendents so the last photo made me smile, William.
ReplyDelete...our parade is tomorrow, they will need their snowshoes!
ReplyDeleteNice parade.
ReplyDelete@Lowell: thanks!
ReplyDelete@Janis: they tend to do it in the lead-up to the date, which suits me fine, as I can prep blogs that way.
@Francisco: thank you.
@Mike: I think the idea's transcended the man himself in many places.
@Mildred: more of those greyhounds tomorrow!
@Victor: thanks!
@Marie: that was one big dog.
@Tom: we've still got snow here!
@Marianne: it was.
Where you find the Irish you find St Patrick's Day and sometimes even without.
ReplyDeleteI like the dogs
ReplyDeleteThat must have been fun to watch. Nice photos of the event, William.
ReplyDeleteIt was so windy during our parade last Sunday but there were still lots of people out having fun!

@Marleen: it was a good event to take in.
@RedPat: ours didn't have wind, but the temperatures remain cool.
@Jan: a big Newfoundlander like that stays warm!
@Beth: it was a blast.
@Red: it was!
@Christine: here we've got cool temperatures at present. We've had snow over the last few days.
@Sharon: I've seen them in the parade before. It's a good walk for them!

ReplyDeleteNice shots, William. I enjoyed seeing the dogs but I imagine they didn't like being dressed up in green too much.

@Lois: who would dislike the sound of bagpipes?
@Tammie: it was indeed.
@Bill: dogs put up with it because they know treats are in store.
Our town doesn't have a St. Paddy's parade so I really love seeing yours!
ReplyDeleteThat looks a great parade,
