Woodlawn

Carrying on with this walk through Woodlawn Cemetery in Guelph, the place was quite peaceful.

There is a mausoleum at the heart of the cemetery. It was locked, but I was able to get a shot through the front door glass.

I carried on with my walk.

Small American flags at a family plot drew my eye. The family would have come to Canada at some point in the 1970s. The father was a veteran of World War Two.

His son, bearing his name, served in the Vietnam War, and died a few years after that war had ended.

I kept walking.

This rather unusual stone with a cat carved into the back drew my eye.

For today I leave off with this view.

  2. Cemeteries are fascinating places. I particularly like the one in the country town where I was raised because there are lots of familiar names on the graves.

  3. Nice photos, the mausolem is fancy. They scare me as a child after my parents explained what they are because my 4 year old mind thought the deceased are waiting for spring like live people do.

  4. Gravestones can be treasure troves for historians and they make great perches for flycatchers too.

  6. You'd never see the national flag on a grave in England, except in the American War Cemetery.

  10. Serenity is what I see...and well tended grass! A cemetery requires lots of trimming around all those gravestones!
