Mixed Shots

Here we have a couple of smaller sculptures, carved on the second weekend of Winterlude, on Sparks Street.

For whatever reason, this large sculpture from the first weekend held out pretty well during the festival.

The same applied to the Louis Riel sculpture.

I liked the way the old bank was lit up during Winterlude.

This small sculpture was done during the second weekend. Unlike the others, which were carved, this one incorporated painting into the artistic process. Here we have it at night and in day.

At another location a few blocks away on the second weekend, there was a Fire and Ice party, tied into Winterlude, and organized, I believe, by the same people who do Glowfair in the summer. I missed it, but this countertop, made of ice, was still on the spot when I passed by a day or so later.

Back to Sparks Street for daytime views of some of the sculptures. Tomorrow we turn our attention to the Rideau Canal skateway.

  14. Such detail. I can’t imagine the skill it takes to completely a sculpture like any of these.

  16. @RedPat: it does seem abstract.

    @Sharon: very much so.

    @Red: I love the festival.

    @Marie: I wouldn't have the skill.

    @Barbara: there were winners selected, though I have no idea if it's a monetary thing. At the very least I expect sponsorship dollars are involved in getting them here and accommodating them during the festival.

    @MB: you're welcome.

    @Carol: thank you!

    @Bill: definitely!

    @Michelle: a lot of skill.

    @Mari: thank you.
