Moving along, this stone sculpture is at the very heart of this space. Inuit Today is a 1974 sculpture by Pierre Karlik.
Indigenous peoples had their own storytelling traditions as a way to understand the world and how it came to be. One of those stories is illustrated in sculptural form here, the idea of Sky Woman.
The large canvas at the heart of this space was done between 1979-84 by the Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau, titled A Separate Reality.
A rich diversity in ways of life for tribes existed pre-contact. Here we see examples of life for people living along the Atlantic coast.
They apparently lived similarly to our Sami people, in the far north of Finland.
