City Daily Photo Theme Day: Best Of The Year

Happy New Year!

The first day of each month is a theme day, and for January, that theme is the best of the year, or your favourite photo. Check what others are choosing for their favourite shots right here.

I am doing this as a two-day subject, with Ottawa today, and the Gatineau and Quebec side of the river tomorrow. I start last February, with skaters on the Rideau Canal.

This dawn shot was taken at Central Park in the Glebe neighbourhood.

A Winterlude surprise, since we didn't really have Winterlude last year due to Covid. This ice sculpture had been erected at Dow's Lake.

Back at Dow's Lake, but months later. The Tulip Festival takes place in May on both sides of the Ottawa River, and this park where the Rideau Canal widens into Dow's Lake is the biggest location for them.

Another location: this bed lies at the east edge of Lansdowne Park, surrounding a statue dedicated to the Olympics, with the Aberdeen Pavilion in the background.

These two shots were taken at Dow's Lake. Nuns and tulips. Go figure.

Taken downtown, this features a view towards Parliament Hill, taken on Canada Day, which was still somewhat subdued this year.

On the same day I paid a visit to the National Gallery of Canada. This remarkable painting is in the Canadian galleries.

And this is my favourite sculpture in the national capital area: Dancer, by Antonio Canova, up in the world art galleries.

In August I paid a visit to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, another of our national museums. This Lancaster bomber is a marvel to behold.

Queen Elizabeth passed away in September. I had photographed a series of panels on a terrace leading to Major's Hill Park featuring her time in Canada. This one, with her meeting with Canadian veterans, particularly stood out.

In October I paid a visit to Rideau Hall, official residence of the Governor General. Autumn colours were in their full glory.

And I finish with this particular supreme being. I was walking one day in October on my way to another destination and saw this cat sitting in the front seat of a van. Tomorrow we cross the river into Quebec.
