Another example of public art at Winterlude: this is La Cocotte by Philippe Allard.
Another of the sculptures set up for photo ops is here.
Now it's onto the competitive sculptures, which were in their finishing stages as I came by. The sculptors use a variety of tools through the three day process of building these- from chainsaws to handsaws to chisels. From irons to flamethrowers to screwdrivers to sandpaper.
Here they are, hard at work. This year's theme for sculptors from across Canada has seemed to have an aquatic sensibility.
What artistry! 👏

DeleteThey all look as winners to me.
ReplyDeleteThey do.
DeleteThat octopus is so real life like
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. But so delicate.
DeleteThat octopus is very beautiful, but how long will it stay beautiful with rising temperatures?
ReplyDeleteYesterday I read here that the ice rink at the Rideau canal will be closed for the first time in 50 years. Can you confirm that, William?
They're short lived. Unfortunately the Canal did not open for skating this year because of the kind of winter we're having.
