A Winter Celebration

Winterlude is back for regular activities for the first time since 2020, after ye olde Covidus interupptus. This winter festival in Ottawa and Gatineau celebrates the season in a big way. I start today with an ice sculpture outside the Chateau Laurier, one of the sponsoring hotels of the event.

The Metropolitan Brasserie is a restaurant nearby, and another sponsor. This was outside.

The Lord Elgin Hotel is another sponsoring hotel, and always has an ice bench outside for photo ops. Yes, it is cold.

They also have this outside the front entrance.

Across the street is Confederation Park, where the ice sculptures used to be- and where I still think they ought to be. The Aboriginal Veterans Monument can be seen at centre.

Lansdowne Park in the Glebe is one end of the free shuttle service that goes from site to site on both sides of the Ottawa River during Winterlude weekends.

Nearby is a skate rink. With the way the winter has been- temperatures up and down- it's looking likely that rinks like this are going to be the only outdoor skating that's to be had.

  10. I'm glad the weather has been cold enough for the sculptures. I don't think they would last long here this winter which is really strange.

    1. Well, it really depends on several factors. They didn't shelter the ice sculptures again this year, which they should. But I got a lot of shots in that first weekend.
