Operation Recuperation

25 years have passed since the Ice Storm, but memories live on. I have a coffee table book on the disaster, probably on the shelves of some of my Canadian readers as well, compiling photographs of journalists from across the affected region, telling the story of the storm. These memories of those who were there are well rendered in this display at the War Memorial.

I'll be returning to my Winterlude series after the theme day.

  1. Beautiful tribute
The ice storm was an eerie event. Opening the door at night, hearing iced branches falling, and seeing the landscapes the next day, it felt like an apocalypse.

  2. Acts of God are always tragic, fatal and devastating to the community. In reading the books that tell the story of the storm, do they warn people how to respond more successfully next time?

  3. Must have felt like the world was coming to an end. The helpers are always there when disaster strikes.

  4. It's nice that there's attention for that. These are special events that will stay with you for a lifetime. We had a snow storm here 45 years ago that paralyzed the north of the country for days with huge snow dunes.

  19. I know the feeling we experienced another three day event of a major blizzard, I made it to work each day anyway, but let me tell you there were some scary moments. Minnesota is really an experienced pro at bringing us back to where we need to be. thank goodness for those snowplows and all other workers.
