Outlook

Wrapping up my series of colour drained shots today, I come back to where I started, at Nepean Point, downhill from the Champlain statue. Parliament Hill looms over the frozen Ottawa River in this photo from last December. This is another shot I'm considering for a winter header image.

  2. I think this one would make a better header too. Possibly crop out some of the sky and foreground? It looks fairy-tale like.

  4. Seems perfectly appropriate for the weather we're having, although when last I looked yesterday our local stream was still running. :-)

  5. it really is gorgeous with all the white stuff. but hey, if i recall correctly ...you were one of the folks who was wishing for some white stuff. right? enjoy it big time. have you been making snow angels, wearing snow shoes, snow balls and snow ice cream? all the other snows? snow castles? 9. This would be a great winter header, I think, specially the middle part is very nice.

  10. @Bill: we do, just not this much yet.

    @Mike: I might crop things a bit, but having the sky like that will likely allow me to contain the title without blocking out the tower.

    @Tomas: thanks!

    @Stuart: thank you.

    @Revrunner: and we haven't got ice yet on the rivers.

    @Marianne: thanks!

    @Beth: I haven't, but I've seen snowmen in parks already.

    @Country Gal: thanks!

    @VP: I'll see what more people think as the day goes on. It might end up being an eenie meanie meinie mo sort of thing.

    @Karl: the foreground might be cropped, I'll see.

    @Marleen: thanks!

    @Jan: it's such a good view from there.

  13. This would make a perfect header for your blog this winter.

  14. @Lowell: on winter days when the wind's blowing hard off the river, that area's very unfriendly.

    @Luis: thanks!

    @Tex: that's the Gothic influences.

    @Sharon: it was!

    @Judy: I'll see what I decide. I might use both. One for half the winter, the other for the second half.

  22. It has an eerie quality as though it is a scene from centuries ago seen through a filter.

  23. Oooh! This one is an even better candidate than yesterday's shot - I think it says "Ottawa" even better. And, like others, it makes me feel very chilly!

  24. That is one spectacular black and white photo. Very ominous.

  25. Super image William.. you might find it hard to choose a new header shot, you have too many to pick from :)

  26. Both are great images and I agree, you should use both.
    Colour drained means you shot in colour, isn't it? At least on my screen, I spy some colour. :-)

  27. @Mari: that's quite the description!

    @Kay: chilly indeed!

    @Tanya: thanks!

    @Randy: thank you.

    @Linda: it wasn't easy going weather that day!

    @Jen: thanks!

    @Grace: I think I'll go with both!

    @Whisk: thanks!

    @Merisi: yes, I shot in colour- the Canadian flag for instance can be seen in colour- but the weather pretty much drained the shot of regular colour.

  29. @Jack: I'm wondering how long it'll take for the ice to form up this year on the river.

    @Peter: definitely.

    @Jennifer: thanks!

    @Jackie: thank you.

    @Shelly: indeed.
