Taxes And A Chateau

The same sort of vignette thing going on today, but in the same area of Major's Hill Park. The Chateau Laurier is on the right. The Connaught Building is on the left. That happens to be the headquarters for Revenue Canada- a reminder that Canadians have a tax deadline this month too (I handled it back in March). Two things you can always count on: death and taxes. As the old saying goes, time's-a-wasting, people!

  1. Your castles are of daydream. The rest don´t know, but the castles ...

  2. Wow that's a statement. Luckily there are a lot a fun things to do first! ;)

  3. I got mine done in March as well! :)

  4. Taxes are everywhere and have to be paid, the chateau looks beautiful.

  5. Yup; our taxes are due April 15. But we got 'em finished in March, too. It seems tax time comes around much earlier every year!

  6. That is a huge building! Castles always remind me of the "good" old times, of corvée owed to the feudal lords.

  7. We do ours on the first day the forms are accepted. Take that, tax cheats!

  8. Yes, taxes are always a hot debate. Here, in Alberta we have the lowest taxes ,but we are in big trouble financially. It's easier to do taxes now that you can do them electronically.

  9. We did ours in February! I like to get it over with as soon as possible.

  10. Hate taxes. Not sure what I think about death...

  11. I remember hearing a story of how people used to be taxed based on the number of windows in their houses. Imagine the taxes on this "chateau". :-)

  12. The same here... and it is quite complicated!

  13. @Tomas: both buildings are of different styles, but both fit nicely together. I've photographed the Chateau many times, but not so much the Connaught Building.

    @Marleen: best to get those pesky tax things done, particularly if it's rather straight forward in my case.

    @Linda: I know some people leave it to the last minute.

    @Marianne: it's a favourite building to photograph. I tend to photograph it more often out front.

    @Lowell: just four days left for Americans!

    @Merisi: here they tend to come in the form of hotels given the designation Chateau. Quebec City has a really grand one that I love, the Frontenac.

    @Tex: quite a combination.

    @Norma: that's a good idea.

    @Red: taxes are the price of civilization. Too many people fail to understand that.

    @Judy: so do I.

    @Birdman: a fitting sentiment!

    @Shelly: there's a line Brad Pitt says in Meet Joe Black: "Death and taxes"... this coming from the Grim Reaper posing as an IRS agent.

    @Revrunner: there would be a lot.

    @VP: it depends here on a lot of different factors. I get it done by someone. It would give me too many headaches.

  16. Thank goodness for the view because tax and death would sort of get me down just now!!!

  17. I'm starting on the taxes tomorrow!

  18. I want my taxes used for the common defense and common good - not to line the silk pockets of those who pay lobbyists the most! We need a strong central gov't that works for the citizens

  19. @Susan: I try, but I'm awful when it comes to comments that are posted the next day or after I'm done for the day. It might be weeks or months later when I come back to a post that I reply to those.

    @Eve: ours are at the end of the month.

    @Ciel: of course, the other certain thing in life is irritating relatives.

    @RedPat: I can say it's much easier getting it done much sooner!

    @Cloudia: unfortunately the lobbyists and their ilk benefit the most.

  20. My taxes are history for this year. I hate to wait to the last minute and hate worrying about getting them done. Only cure for that is to get it over with.

  21. How right you are William, you can't escape either although some people try...

  23. It looks like a fortress. I do hope it won't be needed for that. My taxes were sent in two weeks ago.

  25. April 15 is the day for us. I mailed my check today. I try not to get upset about paying taxes. You only pay taxes if you made money.

  26. Still looks rather cold there.

  27. Though ther is still snow, the view looks lovely.
    (PS. I hate taxes, too)

  28. From a distance they seem to be great buildings.
    We've had our evening of calculating for the taxes a few weeks ago.

  29. Mine are finally done. This will be a very muddy scene soon, if not already!

  30. Luckily our taxes are done too! Reduces the stress to know the task is done for another year. ;)

  31. @Kay: I had mine done a few days ago.

    @Geoff: and none succeed, at least with death.

    @SRQ: best to not be late, especially if you owe anything. I doubt the tax people care if you're late and they owe you.

    @Mari: it is quite a building, inside and out.

    @Beth: thank you.

    @Jack: true!

    @Debs: April can still have cold days.

  32. @Randy: thanks!

    @Orvokki: it's the price of civilization, which is how I think of it.

    @Cheryl: and an impressive one.

    @MB: here it's the end of the month. Mine's been filed for the year.

    @Jan: it's best to get it done before the last minute.

    @Hamilton: I plan on getting back up there in a few days.

    @EG: it does indeed.

    @Whisk: hah!
