A Summer Day At Rideau Hall

I stepped onto the grounds at Rideau Hall during my early September visit. There are nearly eighty acres here, a good part of that open to the public. It is the official residence of the Governor General, and at the moment the property also houses the Prime Minister and his family at another one of the buildings on the site, as much needed renovation work is being done on the PM's nearby official residence, 24 Sussex Drive. On this day there was a cricket game being played on the pitch. And compare this first shot to my header image, which is of the same general direction taken last fall.

There is a beautiful rose garden here, with quite a variety of blooms, as well as a fountain. I have more from here over the next couple of days.

  1. I would like to wander the gardens! Guess the roses don't have much longer to bloom.

  10. @Bill: it's really laid out well, with a rich variety of roses.

    @Grace: it'll be different, I expect, this weekend.

    @Halcyon: well there were early fall colours in a nearby area taken that same day that I'll be showing on the weekend, and at present I have been taking the odd fall colour shot. A lot of the trees are still green though.

    @Marleen: they really do.

    @Lowell: it's a wonderful place to explore. I am slowly lifting my way out of the proverbial black wall state I'd been in.

    @Karl: thank you!

  17. Surprising that the grounds are so empty if it's open to the public. Beautiful rose gardens.

    @Tamago: fall is settling in.

    @Pamela: thank you.

    @RedPat: I wonder how big a difference it might be on the weekend.

    @Beth: I think so.

    @Linda: you're welcome.

    @Wendy: there were others there, aside from the cricket players. I do tend to try to photograph without people in the image when possible, but every time I've been here, even in the dead of winter, there have been other visitors on the grounds.

    @Denise: thanks!
