Evening Mood

One evening there was a low cloud deck and fog enveloping the Capital. Parliament Hill, which can usually be seen from this point of view, was barely visible in the mist beyond the National Arts Centre. I walked along the bridge and took photos of the NAC and Canal, and across to the Convention Centre

The mist was also present down at Lansdowne Park, where crowds coming out of a hockey game were filing out past the Aberdeen Pavilion, one of the few worthwhile elements still preserved after that gang of thieves otherwise known as developers came in here and turned the place into a big box retail monstrosity (side note to OSEG: you guys are dirt bag con artist thieves. Drop dead). As you can see, a Christmas tree was under construction out front.

  1. Nice night series, William, especially the last two!

  2. I really like shot #4. The blocks of dark and light seem wonderfully balanced.

  3. Loving the last with the orange spooky glow.

  4. Ottawa, at night, is wonderful and mysterious at the same time.

  5. Um belo conjunto de fotografias nocturnas.
    Um abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

  6. Those evening shots evoke a feeling of solitude. Love when the color of the lights shines through the fog.

  7. I love the lines in your first two shots.

  8. I like your shots, and your attitude!

  9. Super atmospheric scenes William.. developers have a lot to answer for!

  10. You show a different view by going out in the fog and taking photos. Me? I'm always in a fog!!

  11. @Linda: thank you!

    @Oakland: it was a nice night for photographic effect.

    @MB: and it's quite cold today.

    @Whisk: so do I.

    @Tomas: it is, yes.

    @Francisco: thank you!

    @Janis: I agree.

    @Jan: so do I.

    @Cloudia: thank you.

    @Grace: these ones certainly do.

    @Karl: indeed.

    @Red: hah!

  12. I always love evening shots. Goes back to taking a night flight out of New York City. Manhattan looks like a huge circuit board at night.

  13. Something very different. Beautiful foggy night shots.

  14. These are all wonderful. You've set several scenes for a scary mystery photography is best at night, I think.

  15. Do you get much fog, William? We will get it if we're too warm and have snow or moisture. And it's pretty bad to drive in.
    Nice shots of the city.

  16. I like the effect of fog in photos.

  17. The misty night made for some good shots!

  18. @Sharon: so do I.

    @Norma: I'd enjoy seeing that.

    @Nancy: thanks!

    @Lowell: I agree.

    @Lorelei: there are days we get foggy spells. Usually it lifts by ten in the morning, but sometimes it's around all day.

    @Marleen: I do as well.

    @RedPat: they did!

  19. The first two images really set the mood for this. Foggy, wet and cold. Awesome photos!

  20. The orange images convey a certain sense of another world.

  21. Tell those developers how you really feel! Lol!

  22. Nice photos but I'm sorry about the developers. They create havoc everywhere.

  23. The mist makes for great photos but it looks terribly cold. Bundle up, William!

  24. i love the glow ... so so pretty. mysterious too! happy weekend!! ( ;

  25. Your postings today looks COLD and a bit like a part of a film. Have a nice weekend!

  26. @Bill: thanks!

    @Mari: they do.

    @Eve: I have gradually made peace with the entire concept.

    @Revrunner: they can be very chilly.

    @Catalyst: speaking from personal experience I have a low opinion of developers- and in my case it was more of a wannabe developer who, with any luck, will someday in the not so distant future have karma come along and kick his teeth out.

    @Kay: I love the cold!

    @Beth: thanks!

    @Gunn: thank you.
