Infrastructure, Art, The Farm, And The Feline

Have a look over at my writer's blog today; I have a photo post up there today on an event held here a few days ago for the Canada 150 anniversary year, one that was titled Canada's Table.

Today I have some odds and ends. This dates from late June. I was walking along the Rideau Canal towards Carleton University. The dome of the church against that dark sky caught my eye. This was one of those days when rain was intermittent.

I took these two shots late in June in Little Italy, looking north and then south. This is the commuter train line that runs presently from Bayview Station down to Greenboro Station. It was set up on a former freight rail track as a test pilot project for a larger LRT system, and the city will have the larger east-west phase one of that project finished next year. Phase two is to follow, expanding the distance of those lines.

This I've shown before, at more of a distance, during my Canada Day series. Papa is an art installation across the river in Gatineau, done by artist Hal Inberg. I took these shots while in the area in early July to visit the MosaiCanada exhibition.

I came across this cat in early July in Centretown.

This building is out in the west end, across from the Westgate Mall. It's another one of those infrastructure spots, a hydro station, but the architecture has always interested me. I was in the area in July running errands and decided to photograph it.

Coming back from errands that day, I paused in the area of the Central Experimental Farm, a government facility of over a thousand acres of pastures and crops in the city. You might see a groundhog or two or three upright in this shot.

Across the road from the farm is the Ottawa Civic Hospital. A statue of Harold Fisher, a mayor of Ottawa from 1917-20, stands on its grounds.

And I finish with a view of St. Peter And St. Paul's Anglican Church downtown, which I featured at the start of my Canada Day series.

  18. I did see the ground hogs. Canadians must be quite tolerant of the creatures.
