The Last Light Of A Summer Day

I have some sunset shots today and for the next two days. For the first two of the posts, they were all taken on the same evening. I came up this way in mid-June one evening, heading for a viewing platform where the Alexandra Bridge starts. The sun was descending to the northwest.

The bridge looks dramatic against that late day sky.

I have passed by this sculpture many times, but have never photographed it. Dialogue is an abstract work by the artist Florent Cousineau. It frames Parliament Hill beautifully, and both pillars feature embedded lighting at night. For a different look at it, check out this post by Meredith from Syracuse, who was up here for the tulip festival. It is close to the viewing platform I photographed from above.

I then headed up to the nearby outlook Nepean Point, which stands above the Alexandra. It is topped by a statue of Samuel de Champlain, who first came up the Ottawa River in 1613. During clear summer evenings, one will typically find a number of people up here. Gulls were flying about high over the river.

The last of the sun was bathing the Chateau Laurier and Parliament Hill in light.

Off to the east, the Macdonald-Cartier Bridge crossed the Ottawa River, already in shadow.

One more shot looking at the sun, but we have more from this evening tomorrow.

  16. I like the way you show how things look in the sunset rather than the sunset and colors. Neat idea.
