Hello, Beastie

Coming out of the bird gallery at the Museum of Nature, there are a series of display cases with live critters of the creepy crawly, insect and arachnid variety. Such as this.

And its distant cousin.

I headed out into the Queens Lantern. To make up for the above, here are some of the stained glass windows in this part of the museum.

And more takes on that Moon suspended in here. We'll move into another gallery space tomorrow.

But leaving off today, it's the theme day for City Daily Photo, and the theme is Shopping. You can find others interpreting this theme right here. My initial idea for the theme is not possible under current restrictions, but it occurred to me that I had an alternative, and in keeping with museums. Below are two items I've bought in the last year at museum gift shops, on my rolltop desk at home. The cup at left is from the Canadian Museum of History, and incorporates the beautiful mural Morning Star by First Nations artist Alex Janvier onto it. The second is from the Canada Museum of Science And Technology, featuring a sketch and writing of Leonardo da Vinci on it. Leonardo was the subject of a major exhibit at that museum last year.

  2. I used to have a work colleague who had a pet tarantula which went missing in staff accommodation and was never seen again - thankfully!

  5. The tarantula is scary, but then I'm scared of all spiders.
    That stained glass window is very pretty and so are your coffee mugs.

  7. Good looking spider. I always think that arachnids would make good politicians. They are very capable at ensnaring and destroying, with a little subterfuge to accomplish their goal.

  8. I think spiders have personality, with an original social distancing vibe as well.
    Your Morning Star mug is cheerful.

  10. I think I might skip the spiders. It is good that you have the Janvier mug to remind you of that wonderful work.

  17. @Tom: the itsy bitsy spider...

    @John: oops!

    @Eileen: thanks!

    @Bernhard: thank you.

    @Sami: thanks!

    @Sandi: I figured lots of people would have that reaction.

    @David: these two tarantulas were fascinating.

    @Maywyn: they're certainly different.

    @Marie: the Leonardo one is a bit morbid.

    @RedPat: I figured I wanted something with the mural, and I liked that. I don't actually use either of them for drinking, they just stay on my desktop.

    @Red: that's true.

    @Carol: thank you!

    @Barbara: the south pole of the moon, anyway.

    @Parsip: ah, that would explain it.

    @Jim: yikes indeed.

    @Luis: thank you.

  18. I knew someone once who had a tarantula as a pet. He insisted it was a great critter but I think he enjoyed the shock factor.
    Love your Janvier mug!

  21. Tarantulas look scary and big and gross but having had one on my hand once has made them less scary lol.
