An Evening Walk In The Park

One day, a couple of days before the first day of spring, I went over to the National Gallery to take in some art. I'll be showing you that starting in a couple of days, but thought I'd show my walk away in the evening first. Otherwise you'll be seeing snow on the ground in May when I conclude the series, and wondering what happened.

This view looks towards the American embassy from the north.

I headed into Major's Hill Park and looked to the west and northwest. The glass tower of the Gallery stood out against the last light of the day.

A view of the embassy from within the park. It looks quite dramatic at night.

And turning, a view of Parliament Hill.

Another look back at the twilight.

Carrying on, here's a neighbour to the American embassy, south of it. The Connaught Building is the headquarters of the Canada Revenue Agency. It's in the Tudor-Gothic styles, and was built between 1913-15. It is reputed to be haunted.

The twilight gave me some good shots in the park.

The Chateau Laurier lies at the south end of the park.

From its terrace I looked back across the Ottawa River to the Gatineau skyline.

And from the pathway I photographed the Bytown Museum, which sits below Parliament Hill along the Ottawa Locks of the Rideau Canal. It dates to the building of the Canal, and like the Connaught Building and the Chateau Laurier, is reputed to be haunted.

For today I leave off with this view from the terrace below the Chateau, looking towards the river.
