Artistic Treasures

Here we have one of my favourite paintings in the collection, looking like she just stepped out of a Jane Austen novel. Mrs. John Beverley Robinson is a portrait dating to 1845 by George Berthon.

This is Miss Amelia Boddy, dating to 1841, by John Bell-Smith.

This painting is attributed to Robert Whale. The Canada Southern Railway At Niagara dates to circa 1870.

Another work by Whale: View Of Hamilton dates to 1853 and sees the growing town from the high ground of the Niagara Escarpment.

Here we have Kakabeka Falls, Kamanistiquia River, by Lucius R. O'Brian, dating to 1882. This waterfall is in Ontario's north, near Thunder Bay, and I've seen it a couple of times.

For today I'll leave off with another work by Cornelius Krieghoff. Winter Landscape, Laval dates to 1862.

  2. If only Mrs Robinson and Miss Boddy had realised that one day their likenesses could be seen around the world by the simple click of a button....

  16. And I suspect artists, especially fine artists, could make good money off of painting portraits of pretty young ladies.

  17. That painting of the falls is so real that you can almost hear the water crashing down.

  20. William - the painting of the Canadian Southern Railway near Niagara intrigued me. I have been there and don't remember a railway - was it really there in the 1870s? But my favorite was the Winter Landscape.

    1. Looking at the painting, I believe the track would have been removed in favour of the parkway that exists today.
