Thunder Cloud is the title of this 1913 bust by Emanuel Hahn, depicting a scout who had served in the U.S. Army years earlier, a man of Blackfoot and French roots, done when Thunder Cloud was visiting the east.
Another take by Hahn of the man: Indian Scout, also from 1913.
Voyageurs At Dawn is an 1871 painting by Frances Anne Hopkins.
Here we have Indian Encampment On The Lower St. Lawrence by William Raphael, dating to 1879.
Waterfall is an 1866 painting by O.R. Jacobi
This display case contains ceremonial regalia of a Haida chief. It's on permanent loan to the Gallery, but still occasionally used by the chief.
Off to the side is the other interior courtyard, this one containing a reflecting pool. A number of small sculptures occupy the far side.
The waterfall is very fine.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Reckon, though, I´d sit by the pool?
ReplyDeleteMaybe the pope would like a tour next week when he visits. Seems ironic in the extreme that a little old man from Argentina is coming to Canada to apologize for excesses by an organization that has had its hands dipped in blood from its very inception.
ReplyDeleteThe sculptures are very well done !
ReplyDeleteI like the coolness of that waterfall.
ReplyDeleteConozco la indumentaria de los indios, por las películas del lejano oeste.

Que tengas una buena semana.

ReplyDeleteI really like the Hahn sculptures!
ReplyDeleteI love Thunder Cloud. What a distinctive face.
ReplyDeleteI'm rather fond of all of these, especially the paintings but that bust of Thunder Cloud is magnificent. Hmmm. That would be a good nickname for a kid having a temper tantrum. I'll have to remember it when we kid-sit.
ReplyDeleteNice exhibit and beautiful art.
ReplyDeleteI like that statue of the scout.
ReplyDeleteThe weight of all those beads must be good insulation.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful!
