In the foreground we see some of the weapons German forces were using during the Normandy campaign.
A display case, with German weapons at top and Allied weapons below.
Canadian soldiers found a particularly vicious enemy commander in Kurt Meyer.
This is a Canadian field gun of the time.
And this is a D-Day veteran, a Sherman tank called Forceful III, which survived the war, as did its crew. Now its home is here.
Shermans were a big part of the Allied effort. While not as powerful as the German Panzers or Tigers, there were more of them, better supplied, and backed by aerial bombers. That made all the difference.
As was the case among other Allied forces throughout the Normandy campaign, Canadians time and again showed resilience and bravery for their actions. It would be a hard earned victory. With more to come.
What a pity weapons are still used around the world.
