In The Winter Playground Of Snow And Ice

Jacques Cartier Park is a large park on the shore of the Ottawa River on the Gatineau side of the river, and for Winterlude, this is the home of a large playground and home to snow sculptures. The big snowslides are seen in the distance here.

This year, some of the snow sculptures and bas relief carvings have incorporated both snow and ice.

Such as with this large snow sculpture. The sculpted fire before him is composed of both columns of snow and ice.

These caught my eye. A three dimensional effect is done by featuring cutouts within this space, one behind the other. This is a technique that's been around a long time. Before I left the park, I came back and took some additional shots to brighten things up. We'll see that when I conclude this visit.

This is the next sculpture, with much of it a snow sculpture, but standalone figures of ice as part of the whole. We'll see more of it tomorrow.
