The trail from the start descends a staircase part of the way.
A glimpse of the water down the steep slope.
The trail goes on. The lake's unusual qualities include some species of fish that are normally saltwater species. The lake was once saltwater after the end of the ice age, when this area was inundated with water. But unlike other lakes that do so within decades, as the sea retreated, the water took much longer to transition from saltwater to freshwater. The fish adapted too.
A peek through the trees.
Here at the lakeshore, we can see a hint of green in the water. It was more pronounced last year, but that was also a sunny day.
Another panoramic shot to finish things for today.
That is an impressive stairway going down to the lake. I would think twice about walking down all those stains. Beautiful shot of the lake.
