The Residence Of The Greek Ambassador

Today I have two views, holdovers from Doors Open, of the Greek Ambassador's residence in the Glebe. I first introduced it to you here. This is a different angle for the front of the residence, up on the hill overlooking the Rideau Canal.

While this is at the back. If the residence participates next year, I'll have to photograph the garden.

  1. More than a normal house looks like a palace.

  2. I imagine that covered walkway comes in handy at times during the year.

  3. Very sound construction I'd say.

  4. @Linda: I always liked passing by the place on the sidewalk, and wondered what the interior would be like.

    @Tomas: The architect really designed it well.

    @Stuart: it is.

    @Karl: it's quite a place.

    @Revrunner: definitely.

    @Marianne: quite true.

    @Sharon: it is built to last.

    @Tex: so did I.

    @Birdman: yes!

  8. Nice pad, though un-Greek, but of course it isn't IN Greece! ;)

  11. @Jan: it's definitely a good view.

    @VP: the architect, Noffke, really knew what he was doing. There are a good number of his homes in that part of Ottawa.

    @Grace: I must remember it for next year!

    @Bibi: no, it predates the Greek embassy purchasing it for the ambassador, but I imagine the residents like it.

    @Judy: it is!

    @Luis: I thought so.

    @Jennifer: there are quite a lot of embassies and ambassador's residences scattered through older parts of the city.

  14. Thanks for the link to the previous post. I am fascinated by architecture, so I like all three views, and those interiors, too. I agree that the garden would surely make a good addition to your series. Does the cover over the sidewalk stay there when it snows?

  15. Is there a red carpet under the green canopy?

  16. @Denise: thank you!

    @Ciel: it's a place with character.

    @Lynette: as I recall, yes, but I don't pass by that place in the winter often. It would make sense to keep it up though, since it keeps those stairs sheltered.

    @Cheryl: thank you!

    @Norma: I think so too.

    @Paul: no, just the steps.

  17. At first look I thought that covered walkway was some type of waterslide. Now that would be a fun way to exit a building. :-)

  19. You must have taken a week off work during Doors Open in order to see so many places!

  20. This old place has tons of character...except for that "caterpillar" leading to the front door. :)
