Call To Duty

The march out from the Memorial after the service included the flag bearers.

I took some shots afterwards, including this closeup of the Memorial's statue, informally called the Big Guy.

I happened to also get a shot of Ralph Goodale, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, speaking with a number of reporters. He's always struck me as a calm and steady voice. I think that comes across here.

A number of firefighters were lining up for photos. I decided to take some shots.

And so I took leave, with the two fire trucks on the scene lowering their ladders.

  1. I like to see them in their smart uniforms. The uniforms of our Malaysian fire fighters are in bright orange.

  6. An wonderful memorial all round William. Loved your photos last post. My dad fought with the Black Watch during the war, kilts are a bit of an emotional trigger for me!

@Sharon: and for the local one, a much shorter drive. The route out to Carleton Place is about an hour's drive.

  16. Good shots of the day. The firefighters appear pleased and flattered with the attention. (And how fitting that Minister Goodale would have a calm and steady voice. Fitting for his position.)

  19. I have enjoyed seeing this ceremony through your eyes, very nicely captured. Calm and steady do come across in your photo of Ralph Goodale, as does serious dedication, all very important attributes for one in such a position.
