Evening And The Macdonald Building

Last month I showed you a series from Parliament Hill on the Fortissimo event. When I was leaving the Hill, the lights of the Sir John A. Macdonald Building caught my eye. This is a former main branch of the Bank of Montreal that has been taken over by the federal government and converted into a reception space. Opened in 1930, it is designed in the Beaux-Arts style. I have shown it previously, and it featured in the background of some of my recent shots from Buskerfest. Set between Wellington Street on the north side and Sparks Street on the south side, it is named for our first prime minister. I missed getting in here during Doors Open weekend, but loved the way it looked in evening light.

  17. @Red: it's a very photogenic building. As I understand it the bank's just one part of the building, and it's linked up to the more modern portion beside it.

    @Tamago: thank you!

    @Sharon: the lighting technique brings out the best in it.

    @Grace: thank you!

    @RedPat: it does indeed.

  20. Very pretty! How nice that a beautiful building like this is kept in great condition. I wonder if the hoi polloi are ever allowed in for events.
