French

This map reproduction on a wall features a figure who may be the French explorer Jacques Cartier.

Samuel de Champlain would follow, and explore much of the Northeast, part of the effort to find the ever elusive Northwest Passage, leaving his legacy behind all over the place.

An astrolabe in this display case probably wasn't his, but dates to his era. It was found along a portage route known to be used by Champlain.
