We carry on where we left off yesterday, with more of the fossils.
Early on as they were studied, dinosaurs got a reputation as vicious animals and poor parents, but the real story is evolving to look quite different- attentive parents and social animals.
This reproduction of a nest with the first hatchling is an example.
Yesterday you saw a metal apparatus in one of the pictures. It's a pump for reproducing the possible sounds of a duck-billed dinosaur- a parasaurolophus. Check out how it sounds here.
Suspended from the ceiling are several specimens of marine dinosaurs, such as archelon, the largest sea turtle to ever live.
Champosaurs looked like crocodiles, but weren't.
This would be a room in the museum I woyld like to visit.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy it.
DeleteIndeed I never thought they were good parents. And the wee ones even sound(ed) cute - thank you for sharing and making them better... in reputation.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteEven more dreadful beasts...
ReplyDeleteNot so dreadful!
DeleteStill awesome
ReplyDeleteI think so.
DeleteIt’s fascinating to study the past, isn’t it?
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteAmazing exhibit. Take care, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Delete...how do they assemble those bones?
ReplyDeleteVery carefully.
DeleteSo incredible that there are so many different species on display here.
ReplyDeleteI think humans assume a great deal about animals as parents.
I am glad that the dinosaurs are giving us a new perspective of their lives with more studies being done.
I agree.
DeleteThe nest with the hatchling is cute
ReplyDeleteIt's well done.
DeleteThe sea turtle is one I’ve never seen before. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteWhat a fine collection that is.
ReplyDeleteYes it is.
DeleteGreat, William, I'm more and more impressed by the collection of this museum.
ReplyDeleteI always am.

A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Thank you.
DeleteWow, this is fascinating especially after I just heard on the radio a version of what happened when that asteroid hit earth making the dinosaurs extinct.
ReplyDeleteWhat a day to be out and about.
DeleteI guess dinosaurs' social life is to taunt the others then eat them in the end? Just like what humans do one another
ReplyDeleteA wee bit more complex!
DeleteHow many times did I listen to the duck billed dinosaur sound clip? Several.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteLike the way the sea turtle display is reflected on the ceiling:)
ReplyDeleteI do too.
DeleteOkay I vote for best ever, most adorable and incredibly wonderful piece of art the little baby dino in the nest of eggs! Brilliantly genius idea!
ReplyDeleteI thought so.
DeleteThose eggs in the reproduction nest are smaller than I'd imagine.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the photo makes them look that way.
