Bloom

Along the length of the Rideau Canal, tulip beds can be found with various colours blooming.

Down at Lansdowne Park, there are some beds of tulips set on the east side. This year the tulips are mostly yellow, with some red blooms in the mix as well.

These tulips surround a statue that was erected for the Calgary Winter Games in 1988.

Back at Dow's Lake, I leave you with another panel in the series.

  2. Absolutely Beautiful ! I love Tulips.
    Reminds me of middle to late April when all the California Poppies cover the hillsides around the Antelope Valley. Hill just full of poppies for as far as you can see.
    I wonder if the fires have destroyed them this year.

    cheers, parsnip

  4. Just beautiful. And thanks for that last photo regarding Princess Juliana. As a result, I just read about her life (on the internet). And what a fascinating life it was.

  5. Gorgeous tulips! I liked the sculptures in the last post too. I've been to the tulip festival in the Skagit Valley in Washington several times, and although the flowers are the same the approach is very different. It's interesting to see the tulips in the context of a large city rather than a farming community.

  12. I just can't imagine that many tulips out in the "wild." They sure don't grow like that down this way. Gorgeous.

  16. Gorgeous! I learned about a tulip farm in Virginia but the bloom period was already ending, but maybe next year I'll get a shot like these.

  19. @Lowell: every once in awhile I'll see tulips growing in a wooded area, and you know squirrels dug the bulb up, buried it a distance away, and forgot about it.

    @Jane and Chris: they are!

    @Tex: quite so!

    @VP: I'm still taking tulip shots!

    @Sharon: it certainly is.

    @Birdman: counting could take awhile!

    @Linda: I imagine tulips in Virginia would be at least two weeks ahead of us, if not three.

    @Judy: it takes great care... and the absense of squirrels.

    @MB: I love these colours too.
