I wanted to show you some of the work being done around the grounds on Parliament Hill. During much of September, the area behind Centre Block was sealed off to the public as work was being done along the wall at the top of the bluff. Access was allowed during the police memorial day. These two statues are George-Etienne Cartier and Alexander Mackenzie, and they were at the time fenced off.
Leaving the Hill, we have a view of the Centennial Flame.
This look at the main gate also includes the former American embassy across the street. I'll be featuring the current embassy in the not so distant future.
And I close this post with a view of Centre Block through the gates.
I love the ornate gate/fence in your last two photos! :)
ReplyDeleteThe details of the gate are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYes the gate beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe former American Embassy is a nice looking building William and those gates oh la!
ReplyDeleteAnd these would be the type of photos I have in an album. :) It is a beautiful building. Thanks for sharing your photos of this and the memorial you posted earlier which is new to me.
ReplyDeleteThere's so much to see at this site and I've only been there once. Thanks for being very detailed in your photos and descriptions.
ReplyDelete@Linda: it's quite a gate.
ReplyDelete@Marleen: it's very distinctive. The Ceremonial Guard walk through it when they're doing the Changing of the Guard in the summer, but usually the gate's closed.
@Marianne: I certainly think so!
@Grace: hopefully something can be done with it. It was supposed to be a portrait gallery, but Harper cancelled it as one of his first orders of business when he got into office. With him gone, something useful can be done.
@Pamela: you're welcome!
@Red: you're welcome. I never get tired of photographing here.
I guess they have to get those renovations and upgrades done before the freeze hits.
ReplyDeleteA lot of works around...
ReplyDeleteMagnificent fence!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful gate! Have a wonderful Saturday!
ReplyDeleteLove the gate!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great gate! Let's hope the monument to communism gets cancelled!!
ReplyDeleteA preference for the last three photos, they are wonderful!
ReplyDelete@Sharon: well the whole project's going to take years, but I think with this exterior work they were doing along the bluff, they definitely wanted it done before it gets cold.
ReplyDelete@VP: and a lot more of that before it gets finished!
@Revrunner: thanks!
@Nancy: thank you!
@Norma: I do too.
@RedPat: I think it will. At the very least, it'll be moved.
@Ciel: thank you!
Beautiful William as usual your photos. Such a beautiful city you live in.
ReplyDeleteDo you watch Amazing Race? This Friday was a town
Amsterdam is Capital of Netherlands . I believe they had to go Netherlands. .
My husband was amazed at the clean city and the modern tramp go trains as we would call them with plus material seats. And the whole 9 yards of such modern things there. Future deluxe. Can you imagine in the city of Toronto how long those seats would be as is with out being destroyed. I never seen any vandalism.
The Taxi boats and the speed they went on the water for the contestants to get from A to z. Incredible so modern and I mean modern. . The building where they had the ship contest it blew my mind. So surreal inside and out. The painting they had t detect was the original eye watcher. Many did not get it till third time or more. It was a painting of which Vincent Van Gogh painted. A wee mark they seemed to not recognize.
Your town is so clean and so beautiful. Do you have modern streetcars and go trains compared to Toronto?
such amazing shots!
ReplyDeleteLike that shot with the Centennial flame William, very nice...
ReplyDeleteThe gates are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI especially like your last two shots. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's disruptive but I'm glad to see that work's being done. There was a long time when I lived in California where maintenance just wasn't done.
Nice shots! I especially like the eternal flame.
ReplyDeleteI like the flame too, and the style of the gate.
ReplyDelete@Carolann: actually I don't watch that. We don't have street cars here, but we do have a commuter train service alongside the bus system, and we are in the process of a big expansion of that train system.
ReplyDelete@Hilary: thank you!
@Geoff: the Flame makes for a good photo subject.
@Mari: thank you!
@Kay: infrastructure is worth investing in, and maintaining, so this is something that needs to be done.
@Linda: I do too.
@Gunn: both really stand out.
Good to see work being done there! The gate sure is impressive!
ReplyDeleteLove the gate!
ReplyDeletesuch fancy fencing. very cool statue. ( :
ReplyDeleteI had no idea they were doing this!
ReplyDeleteliked the fences and love the gate.
ReplyDelete@EG: it definitely is.
ReplyDelete@Shelly: so do I.
@Beth: very fancy indeed.
@Jennifer: the work still carries on.
@Theresa: so do I.
