As I'm doing other things today here, I have a photo post at my writer's blog today about a recent open house at the National Arts Centre. Go on over and take a look.
Inspiration Village is the title of an installation that went through the summer here in Ottawa, set in the Byward Market downtown. It was staged as part of the Canada 150 celebrations, consisting of music, buskers, and displays of provinces, territories, and other organizations. On Labour Day, the last day it was active, I came by to photograph. Stilt walkers were in abundance.
One of the stilt walkers went about, proclaiming that she was everyone's favourite season: autumn.
There were a couple of large signs here for posing for photos; this first one is an initiative of one of our banks, and there have been counterparts of it elsewhere across the country this summer.
The second one you've seen glimpses of above, and it was the city spelled out large scale. I have more from this event tomorrow.
I always enjoy stilt walkers. That's not easy to do. I remember as a kid in Los Angeles I tried stilt walking. Some of us even made our own. But I never got very good at it. Love that Ottawa sign in the last photo!
ReplyDeleteI like to watch stilt walkers. Always wondered how they can balance up there!
ReplyDeleteSchön die Stelzenläufer.
ReplyDeleteNoke
Stilt walkers are always amazing to watch.
ReplyDeleteHi William, I'm always fascinated by walkers. This stunt has only recently caught on in South Africa. The signs are huge and prominent for sure. Have a great day. Jo
ReplyDelete...William, no have tall folks up there.
ReplyDeleteHello, the stilt walkers are amazing. I like the costumes too. Happy weekend to you!

There sure is a lot of creativity in Canada. You're second only to Perth, Australia.
ReplyDeleteThese are things we never see here and since I don,t watch TV I'm not even aware of them.
ReplyDelete@Lowell: I've tried it once or twice.
ReplyDelete@Nancy: it takes lots of practice!
@Noke: thank you!
@Marianne: they are.
@Jo: I should have really photographed this event a lot sooner than I had, instead of waiting for the last day!
@Tom: indeed!
@Eileen: thank you@
@Francisco: thanks!
@Norma: we've got a lot going on.
@Red: this one was a more low key Canada 150 event compared to some of what's been going on this year.
What a nice colorful act and place to be.
ReplyDeleteLots of activity, William! And I was also looking at the buildings and saw a "for lease" sign! Here in Montreal it is worded "for rent" or, of course, "a louer". Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty amazing the way they balance way up there.. and I do like autumn 😀
ReplyDeletei love the butterfly wings ... so cool. very creative. ( ;
ReplyDeleteit takes skill to walk on stilts. I know, I tried it once and had the skinned knees to prove it.
ReplyDeleteThey are so skilled on those stilts!
ReplyDeleteI admire the stilt walkers, they are very talented. I like the Ottawa sign, very nice.
ReplyDelete@Jan: indeed!
ReplyDelete@Linda: that must be the upper floors of that building. There's a store in there now on the ground, but some years back there was an outfitters shop in there that took up the first two floors.
@Grace: that takes a lot of practice.
@Beth: they certainly are.
@Sharon: I remember having a spill trying it.
@RedPat: they certainly are.
@Bill: usually I don't like having people in the shot posing with something like that, but in this case it added something to the sign.
How creative ~ great photos of the event ~ very colorful ~ ^_^

Having zero balance and able to even fall out of my shoes, I am super impressed with stilt walkers. Great photos, thanks for sharing them :)
ReplyDeleteThe stilt walkers are amazing and their costumes are great.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Denise. Zero balance. So I too am impressed with stilt walkers. It's an unfathomable skill to me.
ReplyDeleteI always admire stilt walkers ...
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's for us William, thanks.
All the best Jan
That should inspire someone.
ReplyDeleteThis is neat stuff. We never did visit the amazing topiary you recommended. sigh. Oh well. I loved your photos!
ReplyDeleteStilt walkers look fantastic with big letters! Nice shots.
ReplyDelete@Carol: it was fun!
ReplyDelete@Denise: it would take a lot of practice!
@Catalyst: they seemed quite in their element.
@Kay: it's quite something to see them walk about.
@Jan: you're welcome.
@Mari: definitely!
@Jennifer: ah, you missed it.
@Klara: thank you!
