The Changing Of The Season

It's time for some fall shots. I was down in Commissioners Park at Dow's Lake late in the afternoon on the last day of September. The lake is formed here as part of the Rideau Canal, and the park's flowerbeds are a prime spot for the Tulip Festival in May. The rest of the growing season, plants and flowers are placed there that last into October. By now they're either removed or in the process of being removed so that tulip bulbs have the soil over the winter.

This tree was getting its fall colors underway.

Here we have the lake itself, with Carleton's campus and the Arboretum in the background. A nice spot to sit for awhile.

  1. Wonderful post and the last photo is brilliant.
I have a chair, really two just outside my studio door just like this. I like sitting in there and looking at my view just like in your photo.
Now mandibles and I play fetch there also.

    cheers, parsnip

  10. Although the colors and the light can be beautiful in October and November, fall isn't my favourite season.

  13. I agree with all those who lauded the last shot and the chair. But the flora is very similar to our flora here. Of course, our flora was just planted with the intention of lasting for a month or two or three... :)

  16. The chair looks inviting, but I suppose it won't be long before that would be a pretty chilly place to sit.

  19. Beautiful photos as always, William. The little tree over our birdbath is changing color a bit but mostly just dropping leaves.

  24. It is mind boggling to think of the many hours it must take to change those seasonal displays. It certainly would be very pleasant to sit in that chair and look across the river. Great photos!
