When I was finished photographing the tulips in yesterday's post, signage to the west of the bed caught my eye. I had not seen it before, so I headed over. A detail of a larger picture by Malak Karsh is seen in the main part of the sign- a river boat.
Here's the original photograph by Malak, titled Paper and Politics. It shows a log drive on the Ottawa River below Parliament Hill. This photograph appeared on the Canadian one dollar bill for many years, paired with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth on the other side, based on a photograph done by Malak's brother Yousuf..
One more look at Malak's tulips.
The path took me up towards the Museum of History. The river boat appearing in Malak's photograph has its home here on the grounds at left. The exhibition wing takes up the centre in the background, with the curatorial wing at right.
Trees in blossom outside the curatorial wing caught my eye.
Up the stairs I went, and another bed of tulips beside the curatorial wing provided the ideal subject.
Over on the east side of the curatorial wing there are formal beds where tulips can be found. As well in among the bushes that line those beds are tulips that must have been planted there by hard working squirrel gardeners, and have done well for themselves.
Here we have the formal beds, like the curves of a river.
Everything looks tidy and clean.

Nice piece of history about that boat and the paper production.
ReplyDeleteThe trees are a perfect foil for the tulips.
