Visiting Jacques Cartier Park

East of the Museum of History lies Jacques Cartier Park, a large park along the shoreline of the Ottawa River. At its main entrance is a larger than life statue of a larger than life man. Maurice "Rocket" Richard was one of the best to ever play the game of hockey, an icon of the Montreal Canadiens team. This impressive statue balances most of its weight on one of the feet and the stick, all while capturing the resolute determination of the man. Around it in May, tulips are in full bloom.

Moving into the park, there are two large flowerbeds with tulips for the festival, usually a single colour in a given stretch before shifting to a neighbouring colour. Every once in awhile one sees a rogue tulip from previous years.

  8. Having lived in Québec I can attest that Richard was akin to a saint - more revered in fact.
