Port of Halifax

A reminder to members of City Daily Photo that the theme for the first of August is Wood, and that theme days for the next few months are up at the CDP page.

I start today with two different paintings of a similar subject. The Frank Off George Island, Halifax is by John O'Brien and dates to circa 1856.

The Port of Halifax dates to circa 1835, and is attributed to John Poad Drake.

Attributed to Robert Whale, and dating to circa 1870, this is The Canada Southern Railway At Niagara.

This is another work by Whale. View of Hamilton is from 1853, and shows the growing town of Hamilton, Ontario, from the high ground of the Niagara Escarpment.

Frederick Alexcee painted Fort Simpson around 1900.

Laurentian Splendour dates to 1880, and is by John A. Fraser.

Allan Edson painted Landscape With Cascade in 1872. We'll carry on with more tomorrow from the National Gallery.
