Market

The main farmers market in Ottawa is held at Lansdowne Park. From November through April it is held inside the Aberdeen Pavilion on Sundays, with a couple of weeks off over the Christmas holidays. I come by regularly and pick up a few things. I was by last Sunday and stopped in to take photographs. The big tree out front was erected in time for the Ottawa Christmas market, over on the north side of the Pavilion. I'll show you that tomorrow.

A close up of the tree, with snow.

I went inside. The Pavilion is the last surviving exhibition hall of its type of architecture in North America, and has been designated a national historic site. It once hosted Stanley Cup games over a century ago. When I came in, the farmers market was busy.

A model railway was on the go.

I bought the little bear at right with the green scarf.

Dogs were busy saying hello.

It is common to see musicians here.

The vendors remain through the winter, though their numbers are less than at the height of harvest. I tend to buy jam here- one of the vendors makes a delicious apple pie jam. It will be a long time before I buy jam from stores.

Colours of the season.

And closing out, more dogs.

  3. There is clear interest in the market. There will have been a leaky buzz, I suppose.

  6. Our local farmers market has become a major attraction and gets overrun with out-of-towners to the point where you can barely move. Used to be you could chat with the vendors but they no longer have time.

    1. I guess that's either the Saint Jacob's or the Kitchener-Waterloo market.
