Venus Plucking The Wings Of Cupid is a bronze sculpture by Massimiliano Soldani, dating to 1715-20, depicting the story of mythology, with the goddess uncharacteristically angry.
One last look at this wide space.
Going back and finding a side corridor, I made my way to the other end of the closed off space. Here we find works by Gustav Klimt. Two of them are on extended loan to the Gallery (no pictures allowed, more's the pity). This one is from the permanent collection. Hope I is from 1903, made all the more poignant when you know the artist's infant son had died the year before.
Van Gogh painted Vase With Zinnias And Geraniums in 1886.
Vilhelm Hammershoi was a Danish Impressionist, and this painting is a recent acquisition. Sunshine In The Drawing Room dates to 1910.
And today I finish off with a work by the greatest of the Impressionists. Monet painted Rough Sea in 1881.
I could not look away from that painting with the pregnant woman
ReplyDeleteIt's compelling.
DeleteSuch a wide variety of styles and subject matter.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely.
DeleteInteresting exhibits. Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteImpressive art again. Wonder how long the pregnant woman had to stand still? We made such sketches and our time-limit was 60-90 seconds... Certainly the outcome was very much different. But better for the woman.
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteI like the last three paintings.
ReplyDeleteI do too.

DeleteThanks for the motivation... I have to go... I have to go to the gallery... the Old Masters of Dresden, the art treasures of the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland Augustus the Strong - and his sons... the heyday of this city and the cornerstone of the art collections... Thanks for your photos, it's a delight to see.
ReplyDeleteI am happy and thank you. Many greetings to you.
Art soothes the soul.
DeleteI'm glad you got to view the Klimt paintings on loan, and I'm sorry no photos were allowed, sigh. The one in their permanent collection is beautiful and sad at the same time. Poignant is indeed the word.
ReplyDeleteVery much so.
DeleteLove these! Thank you, William!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
