Each summer these Muskoka chairs (Adirondacks to you Yankees) are set out in this area alongside Plaza Bridge. It's a nice place to relax, with the Government Conference Centre in the background. This is right across Elgin Street from the War Memorial.
This is more of an autumn shot, one of several I took about a year ago, but from a short walk away on Plaza Bridge, looking south along the Rideau Canal to the Laurier Avenue Bridge. The water in the Canal is already lower than the summer season.
I love the chairs.
ReplyDeletenice chairs good view and they are my favourite colour too :)
ReplyDeleteI like the reflections in the 2nd shot :)
I love those chairs too but when and why did they become known as Muskoka chairs?
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how time is repeated.
ReplyDeleteTomás.
As a "Yank", I never would have recognized them as Muskoka chairs. :-)
ReplyDeleteAh, I didn't know the name. One day, I'll own one, along with a porch (and the cabin that goes with it!!!)
ReplyDeleteLovely autumn colours!
I like the colors. Most of ours are white. Your city is so beautiful, William!
ReplyDeleteLove the red chairs and the amazing autumnal perspective. Our weather is colder now, but we still have sunny days...
ReplyDeleteMuskoka chairs are about THE most comfortable chairs ever...a little bit of country in the city..love it!
ReplyDeleteJane x
Heheh...I did not know Canada had their own name for them. I have a couple that look just like those.
ReplyDeleteI will always love these chairs!
ReplyDeleteMuskoka chairs, now that was news to me, until I clicked on your picture! ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful autumn colours along the canal.
I luv the red - so cheerful! ( :
ReplyDeletelove the view down the canal. i like the red 'muskoka' chairs.
ReplyDeleteWe have some Muskokas around town also.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so peaceful, William.
ReplyDelete@Linda: at some point down the line I would like to have a couple on my property.
ReplyDelete@Jen: thanks!
@Stuart: well, the design was originally Westport chairs, then Adirondacks. At some point a Canadian started making them. Whether or not there's a difference depends on who's building them. At any rate, they're named for the cottage area here in Ontario. In Quebec they're named for a mountainous area, if I recall.
@Tomas: indeed!
@Revrunner: by any name, they're comfortable!
@Ciel: the cabin is essential!
@Lowell: red seems to be a dominant colour for them here.
@VP: these days sunshine seems a bit elusive for us.
ReplyDelete@Jane and Chris: it's a great use of the space.
@Joan: I've been quite used to them.
@Jose: they're so appealing.
@Merisi: the Canal view in any season appeals to me.
@Beth: it is!
@Tex: they're pleasant to the eye.
@Jackie: they can be found in many places.
@RedPat: thanks!
I like that they are painted a nice bright color. It looks very inviting.
ReplyDeleteThey look a lot like my patio chairs. Maybe I'll paint them red.
ReplyDeleteBut then, if I do, somebody will steal them. It's already happened once.
I like these red chairs ...
ReplyDeleteI love those red chairs.
ReplyDeleteLove the Adirondack chairs. What a lovely place to sit and relax!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice place to rest!
ReplyDeleteLovely red chairs!
ReplyDelete@Judy: I noticed that I got the sail-sunscreens in the shot as well; they're handy on a hot day.
ReplyDelete@Norma: people can be such a bother at times.
@Tahiti: it's a common colour for them here, but many people just stain the wood instead of adding on a colour.
@Sharon: they're good for a seat, but rather low to the ground.
@Susie: it's quite relaxing, even with traffic on the street nearby.
@Cheryl: it certainly is.
@Marleen: they add a measure of cheer.
That seem to be nice chairs, I like the red colour as much as the autumn colours along the canal.
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective and reflections on the canal! And I hadn't known that Adirondaks were known by other names.
ReplyDeleteI love the red chairs!
ReplyDeleteWelcoming!
ReplyDeleteALOHA from Honolulu

=^..^= . <3
Okay, you answered my question. I guess they didn't want to admit that Yankees had them first. The color matches the season.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there was another name for the chairs. I have always liked the way they look but I don't like sitting in them because it is hard to get back up!
ReplyDelete@Jan: they're chairs with character.
ReplyDelete@Kay: I always thought of them as Muskokas.
@Eve: so do I.
@Cloudia: they are.
@Mari: it's an appropriate colour!
@Linda: that is a problem!
My favorite chairs.
ReplyDeleteIn the US, they're called Adirondack chairs. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove them whatever you want to call them - they're simply designed and comfortable.
And especially love your bridge reflection - it looks like an eye.
My fav style of garden chair William, so perfect for elegantly loafing :) Love the perspective of second shot, bit of a worry anout the water level.. we're already in water restiction mode here in Perth.
ReplyDeleteI really like those red Muskoka chairs!
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are beautiful and the view of the canal is gorgeous !
ReplyDeleteYa gotta love these chairs! We have them, and a Muskoka room, too!
ReplyDelete@Randy: they're great chairs.
ReplyDelete@Halcyon: thanks!
@Grace: the water level in this case is normal for that time of year.
@EG: I've always liked them.
@Karl: I agree!
@Jennifer: I should get one.
