City Daily Photo Theme Day: Sensual

The first day of the month is always a theme day for members of City Daily Photo, and for the beginning of October, that theme happens to be Sensual. You can see how others are interpreting the theme right here.

My take on this theme was done in the first weekend of June, during Doors Open, an event here in Ottawa that showcases architecture of historic and heritage value by opening up numerous locations to public visitors. One of the places I dropped by this year was a former church, All Saints Anglican Church, which has been transformed into allsaints, a multi-use facility for weddings, receptions, artists, performance, and more. On that day, two instructors from a local dance school, Siempre Tango, were teaching the tango in the former church hall while students were looking on. The tango is, after all, the sexiest dance of them all, so this rates as sensual.

Soon it was time for the novice dancers to get started, and the instructors had them go through the process step by step, giving tips along the way. No, I wasn't one of them. First, I was on my own. Second, I'm a terrible dancer.

  6. Yes, dancing can be sensual.
    I always do something spiritual or share a house of religion on Sunday, so I didn't participate this month. Do you know if I can still post a theme tomorrow?

  8. @Lowell: thank you!

    @Kay: I knew it would be the moment I saw it.

    @Grace: this turned out to be an easy theme.

    @Marianne: thank you.

    @Francisco: thanks.

    @Eileen: I know I'm hopeless!

    @Marleen: it was quite appropriate.

    @Janis: I don't see why not. I believe the portal stays open into tomorrow.

    @Tom: they certainly are.

  11. I don’t dance but I enjoy looking at people who do. These are great photos William, you captured the theme very well with the Tango.

  14. Raise your hands...How many think if they visit Ottawa, they'll dance the tango or something that looks like it, in the street with William or for his camera?

  15. Even a church hall can be a sight of sensuality

  16. @Lauren: I certainly thought it did!

    @Red: it was fun to watch. I went up to the balcony level and chatted with an artist in her studio, while the lesson was taking place below.

    @Minoru: you're welcome.

    @Denise: thank you!

    @Nancy: this is a great style of dance.

    @Sharon: it certainly is.

    @Maywyn: this isn't the sort of town with a tango reputation, but this school certainly makes it different. I've also seen them at an embassy event here.

    @Cloudia: who'd have thought?

  17. I totally agree that the tango is the most sensual of ballroom dances. I used to love it in my younger dancing days. It was my favorite dance. I miss dancing. When I got married I discovered my husband just couldn't get the hang of dancing and was always half a beat behind.

  18. we danced at our wedding, my parents took dance classes and really enjoyed it. but then their knees took a toll ... so it is fun to watch or see in a movie, or what not. ( :

    @Barbara: I'd be hopeless trying it.

    @Revrunner: definitely the case for me.

    @Beth: I've enjoyed watching it in movies and real life.

    @RedPat: that's true!

    @Linda: thanks!

  23. Good choice for today's theme! My husband and I took two sessions of ballroom dancing once (my brother was getting married in Scotland and told us we better know the basics of dancing to participate in the reels). It was a lot of fun! Tango wasn't one of the dances we learned though :(

  24. I was, of course, dragged in by the word, 'sensual', because that's me to a T. Loved the photo series. And I'd love to dance, but can't be bothered. From October to December, however, I do occasionally enjoy BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' - it is impressive!

  26. I agree you, tango is very sensual dance. I love dancing, and I guess you just though you are a terrible dancer. Try to go to dance school some day, and you will find a little dancer in you.
    I like these photos, they are a good answer to the theme.

  27. @Bill: thanks!

    @Wendy: I'd be out of my depth even attempting it.

    @Mike: that doesn't show up here, but there are equivalent shows.

    @Mari: thank you!

    @Orvokki: I was very clumsy when I was a child- it took a long time for my fine coordination to take. This is one of those things that would have qualified as a challenge.

    @Jack: the right kind of dance.

    @Norma: definitely!

  28. I've taken ballroom dancing. I love it! Too old, creaky and fat to do it now, though!

  29. Love the backlit scenes! It takes two to tango, after all.
