Gothic Castle

I have some more images from within the cave inside the Earth Gallery.

As mentioned yesterday, the booklet includes information on cave features.

One last look inside the Gallery.

Coming out into the Lantern area on this level, there are a number of historical panels to be found about the building.

Early on in its life, the Museum housed Parliament for several years when Centre Block was destroyed in the 1916 fire.

  2. I find caves fascinating though I'm not so keen on squeezing through narrow spaces any more - the Earth Gallery seems ideal to me.

  3. I agree with John about squeezing through tight spaces.

  4. ...caves are amazing creations of nature, but I'd prefer to be above ground.

  7. The cave part is neat. We went to the Bonnechere Caves last summer. Glad I went.

  8. @Cloudia: indeed!

    @Iris: a good way to put it.

    @John: lots of people have issues with tight places.

    @Janey: a common concern.

    @Italiafinlandia: that it is.

    @Tom: I haven't been in many caves, but I find them fascinating.

    @Eileen: thank you.

    @Sandi: a tight squeeze.

    @Anvilcloud: I haven't been there.

    @DJan: I think so.

  9. I think that is the only way I would do any caving! ;-)

  10. When I spent a night with the boyscouts in a cave in Tennessee, I found the extent of my claustrophobia...I was pretty miserable, though I tried to sleep in my sleeping bag. Now I smile when someone wants to do a cave trip...no more for this lady!

  13. I bet kids love climbing around in the cave.

  14. @RedPat: it's probably well suited for someone who might be claustrophobic.

    @Barbara: I spent time as a child inside a Tennessee cave.

    @Red: I'm not.

    @Jan: I'd like to see more of them.

    @Sharon: kids would respond well to the cave.

  15. Interesting William but caves and moi do not mix well together, the picture of the man climbing out the small cave entrance sent my claustrophobia into overdrive 😱

  17. A wonderful exhibit. I don't think I would like to go in caves, I don't even like elevators. :)

  19. Fascinating post! I remember going into the Luray Caverns (not that far away from here) years ago. I always remember how cool it was down there, and the sights were extremely interesting.

  20. @Grace: it's been a long while since I've been in a real cave. This one has enough space and is shallow enough in terms of distance from the entrance that you'd be okay.

    @Carol: thank you!

    @Bill: I had a look- Ireland and Northern Ireland have their share of caves.

    @Beth: there's a lot of them in that part of the continent.

    @Denise: caves do have that sort of effect to me too.

  22. Intriguing about the cave. I'm not sure it would be my thing too -- at least not a small one!

  25. I think this is enough of a cave to satisfy my curiosity. I know they can be beautiful but they're not terribly appealing to me.

  26. It is beautiful inside a cave, the stalagmite and stalactite are so special!
