Minerals
The Earth Gallery explores minerals, and how some of them are crafted into gemstones. Display panels and cases are found throughout here, with colourful examples to be found.
@Rosemary: things like gold, silver, platinum, but I recall a platinum operation up in northern Ontario that my family took in years ago.
@Jan: you do end up having to take closeups for some of the best colour. A display case general view with the camera can't capture the fullness of the colours.
This is the place I would be looking for hours. Every since I was a little girl in Tucson Rocks or Minerals were the thing to find. About half of the people I knew growing up had a Rock Tumbler in their garage purring away. Wonderful photos.
Earth is an artist for sure.
ReplyDeleteAmazing array of colours beneath our feet.
ReplyDeleteThe minerals are beautiful ...
ReplyDeleteWe call them "Mine Flowers" (underground mine)
Does Canada have any gemstones that it is particularly known for?
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity that the subtle beauty does not really appear in the photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I just remembered how my 2 year old grand nephew can name all sorts of minerals in his personal collection ... his mum is a geologist.
