The Canadian Winter

I start where I left off yesterday with this look back at Winterlude 2018: the graceful bridge crossing over the ice as it goes into the Patterson Creek inlet this time.

Back in I went. The ice surface here is cleared up to an island in the background, and this stretch is included in the full length of the Canal skateway. The willow trees on one side are particularly photogenic in winter.

Back out from the inlet and this time up on the ground, I took this shot looking towards the Pretoria Bridge.

On Parliament Hill that year, an NHL sized rink had been erected on the lawn among the Gothic blocks of our heart of political power. It was made for Canada 150 in 2017, and hosted alumni games (the winter classic itself was held outdoors at Lansdowne Park in what was a bloody cold night, as I recall), and from December until March 2018, the rink was available for skaters, and quite well used.

A block south of the Hill, ice sculptures were set up in the Sparks Street pedestrian mall.

A short walk beyond and on another day, back in Confederation Park. We'll pick up here tomorrow.

  1. Wow on the horses. Oh, bet you would cry if you saw our Ice-thingy here. Artificial and very small... and only there for a month... entry fee, too, skates for rent.

  4. It's hard to see all that ice fun after a winter in which we have had no ice. But I love it!
