Bridges

Gustave Dore created this bronze sculpture, Fate And Love, in 1877, depicting allegorical figures of mythology.

Portrait Of A Woman (After A 16th Century Florentine Drawing) is the title of this work by Edgar Degas, done around 1858-59.

Impressionism, in the form of Camille Pissarro. Here we see The Stone Bridge In Rouen, Dull Weather, which dates to 1896.

Another bridge, another Impressionist- and the greatest of them all. Claude Monet painted this 1903 work, Waterloo Bridge: Effect Of Sunlight In The Fog.

Here we see another Pissarro painting. Rue de l'Hermitage, Pontoise is an 1875 work.

I close out today with an unusual painting by Gustav Klimt. Hope I is the title of this 1903 painting, showing a naked pregnant woman, a contrast to the monstrosities of the background. It's made all the more poignant when you know that it might have been influenced by the death of Klimt's infant son.

  7. It evokes memories to see the bridge at Rouen. Once, I was crossing the river there on a small boat, and was stung on the cheek by an insect. Instinctively my hand went to my face and I knocked my glasses off into the river where they promptly disappeared. A serious inconvenience I may assure you!
