The World Exchange Plaza is an office complex downtown, near Parliament Hill. The first three levels are retail shops, restaurants, and a movie theatre. This time of year, you can expect a Christmas tree in malls and office buildings. This one here has a prominent location on the ground level.
But what is that up to the left?
There are three beluga and two narwhal sculptures here, hanging down from the ceiling through the open space between the balconies of the second and third floors. They're light weight, but life sized, and they make for interesting viewing. I've always liked them.
The Christmas tree is gorgeous. I didn't know they could fly! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun surprise. I focused on the tree in the top shot. Seeing the next photos took me by surprise. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic whales !
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteoh i love those whales!!
ReplyDelete@Ciel: the tree provided a good reason to show the whales too.
ReplyDelete@Lauren: surprise is what I had in mind!
@Stuart: they're not the only whales in town.
@Deb: impressive, huh?
@Tanya: I will have to find out how long they have been there.
They almost look like they are saying "what is that big green thing doing in our ocean".
ReplyDeleteBeautiful !
ReplyDeleteLove the tree and wales together and what fun to have them swimming by the Christmas tree.
cheers, parsnip
This is really a surprise, what a strange and good idea.
ReplyDeleteIn Canada, even the whales flying in Christmas time. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful! No bows on their necks thank goodness. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGosh, I'd love to see something like this around here. What a terrific addition to any place, mall or no!
ReplyDeleteWhales and a Christmas tree--now there's contrast!
ReplyDeleteInteresting how they combined the Christmas tree and the whales. I'm glad they didn't put a red nose on the beluga...
ReplyDeleteHow whimsical. Of course, they would be liked.
ReplyDeleteThis beats the geese at the Eaton Centre (in TO)!
ReplyDelete@Sharon: indeed, they might be!
ReplyDelete@Parsnip: they contrast nicely!
@Karl: they've been there as long as I've lived here. They're something of an institution.
@Inna: thank you!
@RedPat: so much the better!
@LondonLulu: it's a wonderful use of what would otherwise be unused space.
ReplyDelete@Norma: They do contrast quite nicely!
@Lorelei: Rudolph the red nosed beluga...
@Mari: they'd be liked by anyone with an imagination!
@Hamilton: it's been awhile since I've been in there, but I remember those geese.
I like this post and am so glad to know about the sculptures.
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling me about the spammer.
It's been awhile for me, too. I'm assuming they are still there!
ReplyDeleteThe polar bear I'm thinking of was on Sussex, tucked behind that modern Safdie building.
Whales in the mall… and they're flying! How cool!
ReplyDelete@Merry: you're welcome!
ReplyDelete@Hamilton: the Safdie building I do know, though I've never been on the grounds.
@Linda: it really is!
