Skyline

Two different shots today, both with the sky in mind. First, from some weeks ago, on the Bank Street Bridge over the Rideau Canal. The surface of the water was just starting to ice over when I took this. The staircase you see will be used for skaters to descend to the surface in a few weeks. I liked the look of the twilight hour, and this bridge does offer great sunset opportunities.

From a few days ago, this second shot is also taken from a bridge on Bank Street, but further south, near the South Keys shopping area. I liked the late afternoon sun highlighting the snow around the train tracks, and the interplay of lines branching off.

  6. Two very nice photos! I do like the way those tracks veer off in a perfect shape.

  7. @Ciel: No, I don't skate, but I do walk on the canal through the winter. It's actually easier walking than on the sidewalks at times.

    @Gerald: I'll have to come back to this bridge for that shot again in other seasons.

    @Unfinished Life: thank you!

    @EG: it's just a matter of having a camera along. I'm often over that way near dusk.

    @Tanya: thank you!

    @Norma: it certainly is!

    @Sharon: the curves seem graceful.

  14. @Meradeth: I'm pleased I took the mobile along that afternoon instead of leaving it at home. The train tracks pic really presented itself.

    @Carla: thank you!

    @Mo: thanks!

    @Karl: danke!

    @Lauren: it makes for a pleasing visual effect.

    @RedPat: thanks!

  15. I would love to see both photos especially the first one at the same time of day taken over the year.
    Twilight is my favorite time of day.

    cheers, parsnip

  16. Lovely skies! Great color in the first shot and the composition of the second is intriguing. The railroad curves like a river, but does so in two directions at once.

  17. Oh, these are utterly gorgeous! You really caught beautiful light and skies (and I love angryparsnip's idea!)

  18. Both shots are excellent William, you caught such a pretty light in the first, lovely reflections also. and I hope the train driver knows exactly where he's going in the second shot, three very different tracks :)

  21. @Hamilton: thank you!

    @Parsnip: I'm there often enough, particularly around sunset...

    @Linda: the shot really presented itself.

    @LondonLulu: the sunlight in that second one was just right at the right moment.

    @Grace: I think the two curving tracks are meant to feed onto the track that you see cut across the horizon. That's the commuter train track, which has an end station off to the left. The main track reaching to the horizon is for freight.

    @Barbara: thank you!

    @Jack: thanks!
