Art In Rather Cold Climates

From yesterday in the comments, I thought I'd add two links for Doors Open. Ontario has a program of open house events for historical buildings and places of interest from May to October each year, and this is the home page. The events listings for Doors Open events can be found right here on the site- Ottawa has it in early June this year. If you're in Ontario and want to attend these events- or if you'd like to see what it's all about so you can suggest the same sort of idea in your community- check those links out.

I took this on a particularly cold morning several weeks ago at Carleton University. The steam rising from the maintenance plant really shows itself on such cold days.

Also from several weeks back, this house in Old Ottawa South, not far from my place, has this colourful mural on the wall.

It was a hint of warm weather on a very cold day, when I took this shot.

This one's more recent, from a house in the Glebe. The hedge on one side of the property ends with this screen at the street.

The circle of birds is a nice touch.

Finally, ending with a shot from February. The National Gallery's glass tower was at this point free of the iceberg canvas that had dominated the scaffolding around it through the latter half of last year. The scaffolding, when I took this shot, was being dismantled, the job of replacing glass panels finished.

  29. The sunflowers and the birds on the screen are all very cheerful. I would imagine they're welcome on a brittle winter's day. And the glass tower on the National Gallery is amazing. I'll bet it lights the building below beautifully.
