Statuesque

These two living statues were a regular sight throughout Buskerfest, mostly at the two locations in these shots. They were members of an acting troupe- the large cards visible before them were advertising a Shakespeare In The Parks production going in in various locations through the summer. I really liked the way they interacted with people, and the reactions on the faces of others. Their second location, visible in the final shot, was at the end of Sparks Street, with the War Memorial and the Chateau Laurier as a backdrop.

  1. They could make money charging people who want to do selfies with them.

  2. Being a living statue seems to me to be a tough gig. These ladies seem to be doing the work with grace.

  3. They look much more elegant than the ones we see at Circular Quay.

  7. i have seen similar folks to this in New Orleans, LA. they are so cool. i can not imagine standing still that long. i would get a cramp in my leg and look like a total silly person. very very interesting. i do wonder what it is the longest they have stood in one place? ( :

  8. It must be hard to stand still for so long, especially in all that make-up, etc. These statues seem to do the job well, though there are a few in Berlin that are nothing more than beggars.

  10. @Linda: yes.

    @Linda: I know I chipped in.

    @ODP: it is an entirely different kind of act.

    @Debs: they were very elegant.

    @Bill: they do!

    @Tomas: it is.

    @Stuart: I know some travel all over the world.

    @Beth: they do shift periodically, of course.

  13. I have seen and enjoyed these "living statues" in Europe and Cuba but never in my own country. Aren't they fun to watch?!

  14. Very cool, William. And what great fun, especially for the kids. Gotta give these women credit as that can't be easy standing out there for long periods of time. They seem sort of overdressed, though...you know, for statues! :)

  16. Cute shots. I've seen lots of these "living statues" all over the world. Some of them are amazing. I enjoy the ones that look like they are floating.

  17. @Marianne: I imagine they do a fresh makeup job in between sets.

    @Karl: they are!

    @Kate: they're such a treat to watch. I know one, Kate Mior, has taken her act a bit beyond the living statue motif, though still is largely quiet. She was here last year.

    @Lowell: I love how really little kids can't quite make out if these living statues are real or not.

    @Janis: it must take good discipline.

    @Jennifer: me too.

    @Sharon: these two were a treat.

    @Bill: it's a lot of fun.

    @Orvokki: yes indeed.

    @Annette: some people do have that reaction.

    @RedPat: the expressions on people's faces is priceless.

    @Revrunner: it is a lot to apply.

  24. I always enjoy seeing living statues, but we don't have them here at all. Probably because of the heat and humidity.

  26. I'd never make it as a living statue. Can't stay still long enough!

  27. These are fun! The silver one looks more statue like, just because she's so colorless. And it looks like you caught the eye of the golden one on the right. I think she's flirting with you.
