Crashing A Capital

I have one more post from the Crashed Ice event. The area around the Ottawa Locks were brightly lit and well attended that night.

I did shoot a couple of short videos that evening, here and here. You'll want to turn the volume down though.

I can't recall ever seeing the Bytown Museum lit up like this. The place is reputed to be haunted; I wonder what the ghosts thought of Crashed Ice.

Leaving the event, I came up past Plaza Bridge and took another shot of the Chateau Laurier from a different perspective. Taking in this event was a whole lot of fun, and a lot of people came out for it. I hope we see it again here.

  1. I watched the videos and it was an exciting event. With the crowd and the loud music, whatever ghosts that have been lurking there would have packed up and left.

  2. While I would not enjoy the noise I would enjoy that slide! :)

  3. did u hear any screaming ... like OH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! slip and slide? that would be fun. ( ;

  4. @Nancy: they must have been baffled by the racket.

    @Linda: it was loud!

    @Marianne: it was.

    @Tom: indeed!

    @Beth: none of that from the skaters!

  5. It does appear to be lots of fun. I don't think I could handle the cold, though. Living in Florida for 30 years has turned me into a whiny wimp when cold weather appears!

  6. So when is this going to be a winter Olympics event? It looks like it would be a thrill to go down this slope. Speed skates or hockey skates?

  7. It looks like it takes both talent and daring.

  8. How fun. I especially like the first photo.

  9. Wow, I thought it was a ice slide. The last scene and shot of the chateau is beautiful. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

  10. Fabulous night shots, William!

  11. Wonderful night shots of a fast moving event.

  12. @Lowell: the cold is a good thing!

    @Cloudia: thanks!

    @Red: I think it would be a good thing to add to the Olympics!

    @Sharon: something of both, definitely!

    @Janis: thanks!

    @Eileen: thank you!

    @RedPat: I thought so too.

    @Bill: it was well worth coming to see this.

    @Francisco: thank you!

  13. People who went down there know no fear, I think that is rule no.1 ;)
    You captured the speed, William!

  14. I can certainly see the appeal of going at night.

  15. Don't blink - you'll the event.

  16. Those skaters are nothing but a blur. What madness. Who won?

  17. Enjoyed the videos. What a fun event!
    Maybe ghosts enjoyed light and excitement for a change :-)

  18. Wauu... what a lovely photos. The people there might have a great fun.

  19. You attended!
    Did you know the boards are being sold at one of the Restores??!! They look fine.

  20. I watched on video RED BULL CRASHED ICE OTTAWA 2017 Wow!. Very fast and dangerous. I enjoyed that as the one at first was blurred and sound so static. So I stayed and watched this one.

  21. @Marleen: it was quite an event.

    @Janey: it was so cold!

    @Kay: it goes so fast.

    @Mari: more than one, since there were multiple categories.

    @Revrunner: it was quite a blast.

    @Tamago: who knows?

    @Linda: thank you!

    @Norma: I wonder what it would have been like sliding down that on your feet.

    @Orvokki: it was quite something to take in.

    @Grace: they do!

    @Klara: definitely.

    @Jennifer: I enjoyed it.

    @Carolann: thanks!
