During the last weekend of Winterlude, I happened to catch a couple of costumed buskers making their way from Confederation Park over to City Hall, outfitted as dragons.
The Ice Hogs were also over here at the time, leaving City Hall as I passed by.
The Ottawa Public Library has a bookmobile program. Two buses serve in this capacity, sometimes showing up at events like Winterlude, but regularly through the week in various locations as an additional service beyond the thirty or so branches of the OPL. The bus is packed with books and other borrowing material.
Skaters were out on the ice rink before City Hall and Cartier Square.
And there were street musicians out at the entrance to City Hall. The enthusiasm of the dancer, moving to the sound of the drums, caught my attention.
I love the Ottawa book mobile and the dragon! :)
ReplyDeleteThe book mobile program is a good program. If only we have this here. Lots of wonderful happenings in Ottawa!
ReplyDeleteGoodness the last weekend of Winterlude is a feast of events and opportunities for the photographer William, I'm with the others above, the mobile book bus looks brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThere is plenty to catch your eye. Looks like so much fun.
ReplyDeleteNice to see all the activities! We have mobile libraries here as well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a kind of carnival.
ReplyDeletethat is a cool dragon. neat costume! so fancy!!! ( ;
ReplyDeletelove the costumes!
ReplyDelete@Linda: I do too.
ReplyDelete@Nancy: it is a good resource.
@Grace: I had no shortage of photo ops.
@Lauren: it was fun.
@Marleen: it is a good idea.
@Marianne: it does indeed.
@Beth: very cool!
@Hilary: me too.
There is something fun for everyone at this event I see.
ReplyDeleteBook mobile is such a good idea.Also it looks like you have a few places in Ottawa for ice skating ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the dragons? All of a sudden I've seen several blogs featuring dragons. Didn't St. George take care of that problem? Looks like you have a lot of fun there, but what's wrong with you people? Don't y'all know it's cold and you need to be inside by the first reading a book or sleeping? Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteCute dragon and ice hogs! I like the bookmobile!
ReplyDeleteYou still have lots of winter but your people get out and enjoy it. Ottawa must have the highest number of people who skate. The dragon costume is very ornate.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful winter day, William!
ReplyDelete@Sharon: there's a lot!
ReplyDelete@Klara: that particular ice rink is quite popular, and is still open at present.
@Lowell: but cold is a good thing!
@Tamago: I do as well.
@Red: we're in that transition zone at present. I've looked at the ice on the canal today, for instance, and there are signs of weakness. You couldn't step on it now.
@RedPat: it was!
I'm glad there's still room for them in the streets between the piles of snow.
ReplyDeleteSo much goes on in your neck of the woods. No one lets a little cold weather keep them inside.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Canadians use many opportunities to be outdoors.
ReplyDeleteLoved the dragons and the dancer. There is one man standing in that cold with no covering on his arms. Brrrr!
ReplyDeleteCute costumes!
ReplyDeleteRe the buskers and the ice hogs: what some people will do to get some attention!
ReplyDeleteSo much going on! I'm guessing that by Winterlude people are more than happy for an excuse to get out of the house.
ReplyDeleteit really looks like such a fun day!
ReplyDeletewhat sunny fun!
ReplyDeleteLove the dragon! Nice to see the bookmobile. I remember one when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteThis really looks fun - and colourful shots too.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
It really does look like fun!
ReplyDelete@Revrunner: big piles!
ReplyDelete@Denise: we make the most of winter.
@Kate: that we do.
@Mari: some people don't dress for the cold.
@Lois: I think so!
@Catalyst: true!
@Kay: that's true.
ReplyDelete@Tanya: it was.
@Cloudia: definitely.
@Linda: we've got two of them, and they get a lot of mileage in a given week.
@Jan: thanks!
@Norma: it is.
