The Bridge And The City In The Twilight

Taken during Winterlude one day, this view is of the Bank Street Bridge from the west side. I turned around and photographed the view looking west from the same spot.

This view looks east from on top of the bridge, late in the day on the last Saturday of the festival, the final day the ice was open to skaters.

Downstream from there, I stopped at the Patterson Creek area, an inlet for the Canal which allows skaters to come on in and skate, and took some photos around the area in the dying light of day.

This last shot shows the inlet to the left after the sun has gone down under the horizon. There's a speck of light just at the top of the shot- I believe that's Venus.

  3. I guess a canal comes in handy as water or ice. Evening looks good. Sunday night I had a perfect opportunity to star gaze being out away from the city lights but I didn't take it up, next time

  12. Beautiful skies skillfully framed by trees. Once again the skating on the canal is a very Canadian view.

  13. @Grace: it was a very good day, that twilight day, for sky conditions.

    @Karl: not anymore, though the rink at City Hall remains open.

    @Cloudia: thanks!

    @Sharon: definitely!

    @Red: it's a marvelous asset to have, this canal. I wonder what Colonel By would have thought, his canal serving as a skating rink.

  16. Ahh, that time of day is always nice after a day spent in the chill air. You captured the mood perfectly. I didn't realize the canal was only open to skating during the festival. I thought you could skate there all winter.

  18. Really nice photos William!
    I always thought all those people were skating, but now I see that some of them are walking.

  19. These are all superb photos because they allow the viewer a sense of being there. The first one is especially good as is the one through the tree trunks. But I loved them all! Well done!

  21. @Carolann: you're welcome.

    @Klara: thanks!

    @Wendy: it depends on the weather. Some years it can go straight through from early January into March. Other years we get a shorter skating season.

    @RedPat: many people do so!

    @Pat: yes, there are walkers. I do it myself. It's easy to stroll, once you're used to it.

    @Lowell: thanks!

    @Whisk: I think so.

    @Catalyst: it does!
