Majesty In The Baroque Room

The Baroque Room is a wonder to be inside.

I wanted some closer looks. Here we have Landscape With A Temple Of Bacchus, a 1644 painting by Claude Lorraine.

Mythology also provides the basis for this dramatic work. Ulysses Discovering Astyanax Hidden In Hector's Tomb dates circa 1654-56, and is by Sebastien Bourdon, depicting the end of the Trojan War.

More mythology: The Abduction of Europa dates to circa 1636, and is by Guido Reni.

At the heart of this end of the room are two works. At top is Fragment Of The Petrobelli Altarpiece: The Dead Christ With Angels, by Veronese, circa 1563. Veronese and his workshop painted The Rest On The Flight Into Egypt in 1572.

Another Veronese, dating circa 1565-70. This is The Repentant Magdelen.

  3. If you would paint like this today,j your teacher would say, take a photocopy that's quicker ! But as I said already without these painters we wouldn't know how they dressed and lived at that time, except the religious stuff.
