Mackenzie King bought the home and land that would become known as Moorside, renovating it to his liking, and here would be the place where some of his ideas would come to full fruition.
Inside another entrance, two stone angels dating to the 19th century, and bought by Mackenzie King in 1930, stand in the corridor, brought over from Westminster Abbey. The bench between them, a 16th century item and the oldest item he ever bought, was extensively restored.
Upstairs I went. This record player is on the upper landing, alongside a map of the vicinity.
An office is here, used by Mackenzie King's secretary. A strongly Scots Presbyterian, Mackenzie King also had an interest in spiritualism and seances, and was known to have possession of crystal balls for that purpose. A ghost story tied to the estate was told by a retired journalist who knew him, who came to the estate one day, sat on a bench, and had a long conversation with the former prime minister. This was after Mackenzie King had died.
This guest room was the preferred room of the previous owners, and Mackenzie King would sometimes use it. The balcony doors would be a big reason to like the room.
Here we have Mackenzie King's master bedroom.
A glance out the balcony doors.
And for a man like him, a small desk, and a shelf for some books as well would do nicely.
Thank you. It´s all very beautiful.
